Yellow!

Fat Blossom, is in a hiatus of domestic sprucing.  My sprucing is effective in the areas of common garden variety household management...   and most output of the artistic variety around here is delayed.  Wintery

However 2012 has brought with it a number of artistic achievements for me, and The Girls which was staged at the beginning of the year was a signatory piece in making Public Art under pressure with no capital.

You can check out images and info on The Girls by following this link:  LINK
Or just go over to the The Girls Backstage blog:  THE GIRLS Blog

At the end of last year the Ayrlies documentary project was completed at a total of about 240 finished minutes of footage representing chapters of the garden, in documentary style.  This was an extraordinary learning curve in many ways, apart from learning about the ins and outs of maintaining a huge established garden.  Click on the link over to the right to see a pictorial account of the Ayrlies work.

I have several personal writing projects underway, and I am teaching writing this year, and hoping to reinstate voice classes perhaps along with the warmer weather.  Commissions and collaborative pieces and collections with other people, and always open to having a cuppa to discuss a job proposal of collaborative work.   I'm also looking forward to seeing some poems in print in the next Landfall magazine.

I have made my performance poem from 2006 Opus, available as this small chapbook with an oil relief print on the cover.  They are a limited edition of 100.

But most of all, I am kept on my toes being the mother of a nearly five year old, and I'm aware that I want to make the most of all the precious time I have with him while he's little.  Looking forward to the oncoming warmer seasons of 2012 in Auckland.

Great to be writing!

    Time.

Making time to work on my feature script, but not attending a writer's retreat this week because I am receiving guests in my back yard to be photographed for my poster entry to the Make My Movie competition.

One by one friends and supporters are being photographed from behind in just red knickers against a green screen.  It's a serious film concept actually!

yes it has a slightly humorous aspect

If you want to come along any day this week, but especially tomorrow after 12 for the weather and lend your bod to the cause, please do!  Don't be shy.  It's going to be an outrageously cool poster, and I need all body types.

and yes I'm in it too.

Continuing

2011 has been marching on and I'm continuing with post-production work on the Ayrlies DVD.
A re-shuffle in my working environment has me scouting for new gear, and learning to work with some new programmes.  And looking forward to a winter of editing.  I'm still hoping to make some headway on The Other End footage, and The Dave Files need re-compiling.

The Dave Mitchell site is up and running and speaking of himself,  here is a link to the little film I made of Dave Mitchell's George Raft Hat, as chalked and performed by Michele Leggott's 'Poetry off the page' class.      It's the Dave Mitchell page scroll down to find the films.

Fat Blossom Productions

Under this insignia I also produce an annual poetry film event called The Projector Project.

Also as a keen theatre practitioner I am producing a show in the 2011 Auckland Fringe, if you're looking for These four Walls page click here:   Lopdell.

Filmography as it stands!

2003
The Eco Show doco.
a digital short promoting the process and qualities of the Eco-show Festival.  15min

2010
Stasis
Documentary and abstract art/sound film. Stasis explores the event of a train journey during which someone is killed on the track. Originally inspired by Von Triers 2001 Documentary dogma, McClean was 'filming for sound' on the day of the unexpected event. The film has a reticent voyeurism made more pertinent by the use of improvised word performance in the soundtrack and the choice subtitling of Dutch and German language.  23min

2010
George Raft Hat, a Chalking
Digital short film.  A documentation of Michele Leggott’s literature class chalking David Mitchell ‘s poem and performing it.  Hosted on the EPC: http://www.nzepc.auckland.ac.nz/

Ayrlies Chapters a DVD for the future of Ayrlies Gardens
A series of 16 chapters for private dvd release / ownership that reflect and impart the knowledge of Bev McConnell regarding her famous Garden Estate: Ayrlies. Approx 200min.

In production
The Other End
A feature documentary shot in Central Europe that combine a ‘personal narrative’  with an interview based documenting style, and involves over 40 New Zealand artists and their discourse relating to geography politics culture and war and journeying.

 & in potential pre-production:

Dave Mitchell & the poetry readings of the seventies.

A feature documentary that tells the story of Dave’s role as the MC of the Globe readings and the renegade of the decade.  With recovered footage of the readings circa 79’ / 80’ and contemporary interview from his counterparts at the time, his daughter’s filmmaking process as a poet, focuses on the sound scape of the language in the film.  A merging of forms toward the personal, and the universal.
